The Elk Chair
Over three years in development, the Elk Chair is a dynamic composition of strength and elegance. Meticulously hand carved from 12 pieces of solid timber, the curving form of the Elk Chair transforms and changes from every angle.
Designed by Modet founder and furniture designer Paul O’Brien, the Elk chair draws inspiration from the grace and strength of the ancient Irish Elk. Soft, impeccably finished curves, meet sharp, flowing lines, creating a uniquely sculptural piece of furniture that achieves both lightness and strength, stature and dynamism. Grounded by the generous backrest, which showcases the beauty and strength of the natural material, there is yet great movement in the piece.
This sense of movement echoes the intensely physical nature of the process of making the chair, the rhythm and flow of the maker as they carve and shape the timber, with each chair taking over 150 hours of skilled work to bring to life.
Each Elk chair is individually made to order in our Cork workshop, by our team of expert craftspeople.
